Life:
Sheikh Dawood al-Tai was a divinely inspired scholar and one of the prominent masters of the Al-Tariqa al-Aliya. He loved the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and frequently praised their virtues and miracles, encouraging his disciples to emulate them. He held gatherings of knowledge and remembrance, attended by pious people, scholars, and students of the path of truth, who drew from the depths of his divine knowledge and listened to his illuminating words.
He met Sheikh Ma’ruf al-Karkhi towards the end of his life and recognized his capacity to carry the secrets of the path, despite his youth and recent embrace of Islam under Imam Ali al-Ridha (peace be upon him), his Alawi guide of the era. Ma’ruf inherited from his forefathers the prophetic ethics and Muhammadan lights, leaving a profound impact on the hearts of scholars and disciples.
Miracles:
- It is narrated that he said: “A woman died near me who had no major obedience, and I was told: O Dawood, look into her grave.” When he looked, he saw a great light, carpets, a low platform, and high beds. He asked: “Why do I deserve this?” He was answered: She found comfort in her prostration, so we comforted her in her solitude.
- It is also narrated that while he was eating bread, a Christian passed by, and he gave him a piece. The Christian ate it, and later with his wife, Allah blessed them with a child. It is said that Ma’ruf al-Karkhi was conceived in his mother’s womb at that time.
Death:
Sheikh Dawood al-Tai passed away in the year 165 AH while in prostration. May Allah have mercy on him.
